Texas OSSF Licensing – What It Means for You
In Texas, all septic work falls under the On-Site Sewage Facility (OSSF) licensing program regulated by the TCEQ. These licenses define the type of systems a contractor can install:
OSSF Installer I
Authorized to install basic septic systems, including standard conventional gravity-flow systems with lateral lines and low-pressure dosing systems.
Covers most traditional rural applications where soil conditions are favorable.
OSSF Installer II (Coming Soon at PRATT)
Required for installing aerobic septic systems and advanced treatment units.
Aerobic systems use oxygen to treat wastewater and often discharge through aerobic spray irrigation systems, which are common in Central Texas due to poor soil conditions and smaller lot sizes.
This license also allows for more complex system designs and commercial applications.
OSSF Site Evaluator (Coming Soon at PRATT)
Certified to evaluate soil and site conditions, determine feasibility, and recommend the appropriate system design before installation.
By holding these licenses, PRATT ensures that your septic project is designed and installed legally, safely, and correctly the first time.
Aerobic Septic Systems & Spray Irrigation
In much of Central Texas, aerobic septic systems are the go-to solution where traditional systems won’t work. These systems:
Treat wastewater using oxygen-based processes.
Spray treated effluent over designated lawn or landscape areas through spray heads.
Require ongoing maintenance, but provide effective wastewater treatment even in clay soils, rocky terrain, or small tracts of land.
PRATT is in the process of expanding licensing to OSSF Installer II, which will allow us to directly install aerobic systems and spray irrigation setups. Until then, we partner with licensed Installer IIs to ensure clients have access to complete solutions.
